Our Landscape Photo Tour in brief:
Senja Island is located in the northernmost part of Norway and the country’s second biggest island. The wild and remote Senja archipelago has everything that you can dream of as photographer: impressive mountain ranges, crystal-clear fjords, rugged coastlines and picturesque fishing villages. It’s not far-fetched that Senja is often called “Norway in miniature”. Unlike the Lofoten Islands, Senja is still rather unknown and truly a hidden gem for photography!
Winter gives the majestic landscapes of Senja the extra little touch of beauty. The mountains are wrapped in a white robe of snow, the low sun gently illuminates the landscapes with a golden light and during the night, the magical Northern Lights are dancing at the sky.
For six days (incl. five nights), we will embrace our creativity on this photography journey through the Norwegian Arctic. My photography tour to Senja is aimed at photographers enthusiasts who want to photograph picturesque winter landscapes, majestic mountain formations and spectacular northern lights. This trip offers a combination of photography, adventure and culture with plenty of time for your own creativity.
We will visit the best photo locations between Tromsø to Senja where we will find numerous photo opportunities, including stunning places like Ersfjord, Husøy, Tungeneset, Bergsbotn, Bøvær, and Ånderdalen National Park.
At the end of February, we will have more than 9 hours of daylight for our photography. That gives us plenty of time for photographing and other activities. We will experience great lighting and atmospheric colors in the sky during the morning and evening hours. In the twilight of the day, with a bit of luck, we may also encounter wild animals such as moose or reindeer, which enliven the untouched nature of Senja. During the day, we have time to discuss the results of the shootings and to edit our photos together. I will show you my post processing workflow in Lightroom and how to enhance the effect of your photos fundamentally in just a few steps.
Together we will improve your photography skills and you will be able to create meaningful stories without any words - through photographs that speak for themselves. I make sure that you will have an unforgettable photography experience!
Tromsø – the Gateway to the Norwegian Arctic
Amidst crystal-clear fjords and surrounded by stunning mountains, there lies the Arctic city of Tromsø. The most northern city of Scandinavia is considered as the gateway to the Arctic and has a rich history in Arctic hunting and Arctic expeditions.
Be enchanted by the magical Northern Lights
Senja offers excellent conditions to experience the magic of the Northern Lights. The island is located 250km north of the Arctic Circle and is free from light pollution due to its remote location. Even when solar activity is low, Senja promises impressive displays of Northern Lights at the night sky.
Discover the Arctic winter landscapes on a Husky Adventure
You will have the chance to book an exciting Husky Adventure (optionally). On this 2 hour dogsledding trip, you will team up with energetic siberian huskies and embark on a journey into the snow-covered highlands of Senja. You will sit on the sled and have plenty of possibilities to take photographs of the amazing landscapes that you will pass during that trip. Two guests will share one sled.
This Husky Adventure is optional, but I can highly recommend to book this tour.
Discover the Sámi culture and way of life
The northern part of Scandinavia is home to the Sámi, the indigenous people of Scandinavia. The Sámi settled the northern part of Europe more than 10,000 years ago. With their own language, diverse art and rich culture, the Sámi still shape north Scandinavia today. They are known for leading a sustainable, nature-loving life. Reindeer herding continues to shape the Sami lifestyle and is an important source of income. We will have the chance to learn more about the Sámi culture at the open-air museum Kaperdalen.
Travel time
February is the time of the year when the sun has returned to the Arctic region and is warming up the snow covered landscapes. The days are getting longer in high speed (almost 1 hour per week).
The end of February represents an excellent time to see Northern Lights with statistically high geomagnetically activity. Beside this, the sun is reaching it’s highest rate of solar activity during it’s 11-year solar circle in winter 2024/2025 (“Solar Maximum”).
